Good news!

The first scene render of my TurtleTank character got an award over at gameartisans.com. Thank you GA!

In addition to that, my second TurtleTank environment render got admitted to the CGSociety 3d Stills Showcase Gallery! This gallery only shows art that meets the quality standards of a team of judges. So yeah, I’m really proud :-D

Update: My second environment render made it to the frontpage of ItsArtMag.com. Artwork posted on ItsArtMag can get votes from their users, with enough votes you can end up on the front page. And I made it, woohooo!

Welcome to my new website, thanks for visiting!

More than two years after registering this domain I finally got around to putting something on it. I just couldn’t be bothered with creating a website from scratch but now I discovered WordPress. It’s awesome… What would otherwise take me weeks of designing, writing PHP and HTML and setting up a database, has now only taken me like an hour. And did I mention it’s free? I convinced myself that the delay wasn’t because of me being lazy… I was just on the lookout for something efficient! Yeah, that works.

Anyways, I’ll write a brief introduction. My name is Jeroen Backx. It’s a dutch name so don’t bother trying to pronounce it. Incidently, my English isn’t terrible but might seem a bit awkward to anyone with a native english tongue.

I’m a professional game artist. The professional part is not because I’m such a great artist, it’s because someone with money seems to appreciate the weird stuff I come up with.

My area of expertise is 3d modeling. Or “Drawing silly figures on the screen” as my father likes to call it.  I’ve been a professional 3d modeler at Playlogic Games International for over three years now. Although i’m quite adept at modeling, it’s texturing which I enjoy the most.

This site will be stuffed with sweet drawings and 3d renders of stuff I made. I’ll try to keep the ramblings to a minimum. Occasionaly I might post links to cool things on the intarwebs or write down a tutorial. All in all, i’d like to keep it accessible, entertaining and informal.

At the moment theres not a whole lot going on here, but i’m hoping it to become a big collection of kickass CG art.
